We share your Jewish values.
Welcome! You’re here because you’re not looking for a run-of-the-mill volunteer
experience.
You’re looking for a traditional Jewish setting that offers delicious, local,
kosher food and Shabbat observance within a vibrant Jewish community.

You’re also looking for ways to make an impact in the developing world while you develop as a young professional.
We are your service-learning BESHERT!

Our volunteer program offers a range of activities, from helping special needs children and supporting women in farming, to leisure activities like hiking and coffee tasting.
Cultural experiences, such as joining a Havdalah drum circle and learning about Ugandan spices are included.
The program promotes personal growth, heritage connection, and friendship, promising an enriching experience.
BENEFITS & REQUIREMENTS
Kosher Meals
All meals provided by the program will always be Kosher and Gluten and Dairy Free. Our local orthodox rabbi, R. Moshe Madoi, is our kashrus supervisor. Vegan meals will be available upon request. Report food allergies before upon payment
Security
Tikvah House has walled grounds and guard dogs while Shalom Gardens has hired overnight security for your peace of mind. Nasenyi Village is among the safest communities in Eastern Uganda. Program participants are encouraged to be escorted by staff in the evenings.
Pre-Flight Vaccinations
Uganda requires all visitors to receive a Yellow Fever vaccination before arrival. For travelers not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (2 doses), a negative PCR test conducted within 72 hours of departure is requested.
Jewish Community
Nasenyi Village is the heart of the Jewish Community of Uganda. We have a heimish environment to welcome you for traditional Shabbat observance, only half a mile from our synagogue.
Transportation
Participants must provide their own round-trip flights to Uganda and must arrive within 2 days of the program start date. The program can arrange transportation to and from the airport, Entebbe or Kampala for an additional cost.
Visas & Immigration
Visitors from the USA are required to obtain a Visa. The typical visa type is the Ordinary Tourist Visa. For travelers who want to include visits to Kenya or Rwanda, the East Africa Tourist Visa is required.
Our philosophy of travel integrates a holistic approach to learning from the people and the environment while enjoying all that Eastern Uganda has to offer.
We believe that international volunteer and service-learning experiences don’t have to cost a lot of money.
We believe in combining cultural exchange with impactful community service work.
Whether you opt for Tikvah House or Shalom Gardens, a 10-day stay or a 6-week stay, your work will directly touch the lives of the people who need it most in-line with the Rambam’s levels of tzedakah.
All of our projects and volunteer opportunities are geared towards our beneficiaries becoming self-sufficient with permanent solutions, a “teach to fish” orientation.
